Newsletter May 2022

Boards Corner

Dear members, partners, and friends of the DCCC,

As May is drawing to an end, it is clear that 2022 as a whole will be marked as yet another year in the sign of Covid-19. Shanghai, and the surrounding cities and provinces, has been subdued by the continued lockdowns that started in March, expanded in April and still persist. We are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, cases all over China are decreasing dramatically. As we are resuming operations, we are simultaneously preparing for building resilience in our supply chains to cope with similar scenarios in the future.

In this environment, most businesses focus on short term, operational issues to ensure that colleagues remain safe, and customers’ demands can be met. This range from securing delivery of basic food supplies for colleagues locked down in their homes to going through a multitude of applications and operational precautions to be allowed to run a closed-loop operation in Shanghai. In the DCCC we believe in sharing knowledge and best practices and together with the Consulate General in Shanghai we hosted a logistics webinar on that topic on April 20th. We recently also hosted a session on crisis management to provide experiences from members operating in this environment that can serve as lessons learned if/when the next lockdown hits a city.

May was also the month where our new Secretary General, Anna Lin Yip, joined us. The recruitment was very thorough and involved representatives from all three chapter Boards – North, East, and South – and we are all very happy to now have Anna onboard and look forward to working with her with the aim to make the DCCC even better for all our members. Anna has provided a short introduction to herself in this newsletter, but please feel free to reach out to her with any questions or ideas for future initiatives you might have!

One of the focus areas we have at the DCCC is to be a stronger advocate for Danish business interests and to that extend we will work with our members to establish a mechanism to regularly collect specific challenges and issues faced. In May, the DCCC joined the Symposium for the 70th anniversary of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) which in the future can be one of the ways for us to feed back the input from the Danish business community through official channels. As a first step and following the May CCPIT event we are planning a debrief and analysis exclusively for our All China members in collaboration with the Danish Embassy.

The current restrictions across several cities are of course an obstacle for our long-established annual gatherings and it looks very unlikely that physical events will take place in Shanghai or Beijing before the Summer. That will only make us work even harder to make sure that the coming events will be that much more valuable and entertaining for all. To highlight a few, you should be looking forward to the Summer Barbeque in Shanghai, and Summer Nights in Beijing, both of them after the Summer – and not least the Business Person of the Year later in the Fall!

Best regards,
Andreas Lundqvist
Member of the Board of DCCC East and All-China

Updates from Danish Mission in China

The Embassy of the Kingdom of Denmark in Beijing

Postponement of Sino-Danish Exhibition on Sustainable Urban Development in Beijing between May 24th. – 30th June
The City of Copenhagen, the Local Government of Beijing and Beijing Planning Institute is together with the Embassy of the Kingdom of Denmark jointly organizing the Beijing-Copenhagen, A Fairytale of Two Cities – Imagine the Sustainable Future of Cities exhibition in Beijing. The exhibition follows three themes focusing on Eco-friendly, Green Mobility and Children Friendly cities and curated by The Future Lab at Tsinghua University.

Unfortunately in light of the continued Covid-19 restrictions in Beijing, Shanghai and many other cities around China it has been decided, in coordination with our co-hosts and co-organizers to postpone the exhibition until fall 2022.

Survey of Danish Companies in China
In November/December, 2021, the Danish Embassy and Danish missions in China, the Danish Chamber of Commerce (DCCC), Danish-Chinese Business Forum (DCBF) and the Sino-Danish Center for Education and Research (SDC) jointly launched the second comprehensive survey of Danish companies in China. In light of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the disrupting effects of the latest COVID-19 outbreak in Shanghai and China and the expected impact it will have on trade, supply chains and companies in China and all over the world an additional flash survey was conducted in order to supplement the initial findings.

Since the first survey in 2020 Danish exports to China has grown and China have now become Denmark’s fifth largest export market, but traditional cross-border trade statistics only tell part of the story that links the Danish business community to China. The survey therefore intends to provide policy makers and company executives with information which can guide decisions and priorities in the years to come by providing comprehensive data on the views and assessments of the executives representing the Danish business community in China.

The preliminary findings of the survey can be found here.

Newsletter April 2022

Boards Corner

Dear DCCC members, partners and friends,

April has been a challenging time for many, including our members, friends, and families around the country. As you well know, we have seen closures and restrictions affecting us both on a personal as well as professional level.

In light of this I hope that we all, and especially our members and their loved ones, have taken this past May break as an opportunity to take a step back from our everyday routines, appreciate time with our families and loved ones, and gear up for what hopefully should be a return to somewhat normal circumstances (I hope this ages well.)

The following may be a relatively optimistic take given the bigger picture, and I think that those of you who know me would not exactly brand me as a ‘glass half full’ kind of guy; that being said, I’ll put this out there and hope the universe runs with it:

After both the 2008/9 and 2020 crisis’ (and in part 2003) we have seen the ability of the domestic economy to bounce back, and even exceed prior expectations. What this gives me, is hope, hope that Q3 and Q4 can bounce back and even surpass prior expectations (again, I hope this likewise ages well.)

This also hopefully means, that we can aim to return to our daily routines and lifestyles in a more V shaped fashion. There are of course no guarantees, but if we aim to learn from the past, this might be a reasonable conclusion. Hopefully.

This is also a time where, both as a chamber and as individuals, we must remember to do what we can to help each other and show support in our local communities. This is somewhat of a core value at the heart of Danish culture, so I would encourage all our members and friends to carry this with us and share it with others.

Though April saw several challenges across the board, our team has still been working hard on creating a number of Webinars and digital events. From topics like solving cross border IP problems, manufacturing in China to minding our mental health, and several other interesting and useful topics, I really applaud the team in their efforts in planning and executing this.

As we stand together, unified as an all-China chamber, we are of course here to serve our members. With this in mind, we wish everyone the best for the future, and as usual encourage all of our members, partners, families and loved ones to reach out if there ever is anything the chamber can do for you.

Newsletter March 2022

Boards Corner

Dear Members and Partners,
The year 2022 is looking to become a true thriller. The Omicron variant with its significant number of asymptomatic cases has caused anxiety in Shenzhen and Shanghai where many of our members are currently in home quarantine lockdown. How will China handle Omicron and what are the chances that we will normalized cross border travel? This is the million RMB question that no one can answer, but one thing is sure, despite the gargantuan efforts by the Chinese authorities to stem the spread of the pandemic, the economic and human consequences are significant and no short-term solution is in sight. We will most likely have to accept “Dynamic Zero Covid” for the foreseeable future.
March also saw the catastrophic crash of flight MU5753. Our thoughts are with the 132 souls on-board. The sudden crash is a mystery and hopefully the analysis of the black box will give us some clues on how this could transpire.
One month into the Ukraine War we still see horrifying images of the devastation of the cities of Mariupol and Kharkiv among others. Beyond the human toll which is tragic, we are also still trying to grasp how this will impact global trade as a whole. There are more and more signs that no country will be immune from global change patterns and inflation resulting from the war. This is one of the topics that the DCCC will start to analyze in the year to come. Please tune in on 7th of April where we will host a Joint Chamber EU Webinar on the impact of Russian sanctions.
In DCCC we recently completed our three local AGMs in East, South and North respectively. We also concluded the constitution of the All China Board, and therefore now we have a brand new minted All China Board and 3 local boards.
At the EGM in December of 2021 the membership approved the unification of the chambers and also approved a new All China Membership category. I am pleased to inform you that we have 10 companies which have agreed to become All China Members for the coming year. The new All China Membership lineup is:
Arla
Coloplast
Danfoss
Grundfos
ISS
Linak
Lundbeck
Maersk
Novo Nordisk
Trayton
We would also like to welcome WE Dragons who joined the DCCC as corporate member.
The support of our membership will allow us to hit the turbo button in 2022 with new initiatives such as a new DCCC brand launch supported by our member Jacob Jensen Design and we also plan to complete the reorganization of the secretariat to increase efficiency. Thank you very much for your support.
On Behalf of the All China Board and three Chapter Boards of the DCCC we wish you a good month of April!

Newsletter February 2022

Boards Corner

Dear Members and Friends,
The new year has been very busy for DCCC. Our new setup with combined forces is still in the process of finding our feet and many new task forces, initiatives are in progress and are keeping us on our toes to make the All-China chamber up and running as one unit with 3 regional offices. The All-China Board has been set and consists of 3 members from each region. Each region has its own boards as we had before to handle the topics and events only related to those areas. A number of task Force Groups (TF) has been setup on an All-China level, and they are listed here in no particular order:
  • Finance (Treasurers)
  • Legal, Compliance, Bylaws, SOPs, IT Archiving (Secretaries) IT Archiving
  • Advocacy/ Stakeholder relationships
  • HR, Talent, Training
  • Communication
  • Email, SoMe, PR
  • Memberships
  • Key Events
  • DCBF/ Nordic CC & Nordic Embassies Cooperation
On top of this we have the EUSME project which is in the third phase and finally several ad hoc TF also mentioned here in no particular order:
  • China Unification Event (Ad-hoc)
  • Recruitment of SG (Ad-Hoc)
  • Branding (Ad-Hoc)
  • Value Prop (Ad-Hoc)
Several work composition groups are also being setup within different themes and topics. These are still in preparation for All-China, even some of these are working on local levels already.
At the same time, we are preparing to hire a Secretary General for All-China and we have had a huge interest in this position and are currently evaluating candidates selected by the headhunter. This is a Key position in the All-China organization, and we need to spend the time needed to select the right candidate for this.
Budget on local and All-China level is also being prepared for the AGMs, so it is fair to say that a lot of people has been working hard to make all these things happen and we are sure this is going to add a lot of value to our members and make the Danish Chamber grow and offer better value to all.
In China, we are still under hard Covid control, and we still have challenges regarding free travel internationally. We hope that 2022 is the year where this situation will “normalize” as much as it can, so we can avoid the quarantines and get visitors back to China and the business relations to be continued with personal meetings.
The Supply Chain disruptions seemed like they were easing a little, but the new situation in the world, might keep the disruptions there for a while yet.
The terrible situation in Ukraine is casting dark clouds over everything else. Our hearts and thoughts are with the Ukrainian people, and we are hoping for a soon and peaceful solution to this. The world is supporting Ukraine on many levels and hopefully this will help as well for this situation to end soon.
Our All-China Chairman said in his last newsletter that “ Personal and organizational agility, working closely together, helping each other, being brave and determined will make this a great year for us all”.
If this is going to be a great year for us all, is hard to say in the present situation, but everything else in that statement is valid and we need to strive for that.
Best Regards
Jan Lægaard Broni

Updates from Danes Worldwide

On February 11, Danes Worldwide took part in a constructive meeting with Minister of Immigration Mattias Tesfaye. He appreciates the fact that Danes Worldwide is a member of the working group now taking a closer look at the rules for family unification. Mr. Tesfaye was interested in the experience of our members in terms of these rules. In addition, we discussed the matter of documentation related to retention of citizenship; efforts are underway to ease the requirements and make the application process less complex. Our young members will appreciate such developments.
We are pleased with the interest on the part of the minister and look forward to improvements in the processing of applications from expat Danes.

Newsletter January 2022

Dear Members & Friends,

2022 brings the Year of the Tiger. From DCCC we will like to wish all of our members and friends a year of bravery and strength!

Welcome to the first letter from the Danish Chamber of Commerce in China in the year of the Tiger. Also the first letter ever from the all China DCCC board & Chairman.
A new year means new beginnings, challenges but definitely also new opportunities.

In this letter, I will try to summarize some key events of 2021 and also touch upon what we will be looking forward to in 2022.

2021
In 2021 China celebrated the 100th Birthday of the Communist Party of China. 2021 also marked the beginning of China’s 14th Five-Year Plan and maybe most notably the launch of China’s dual circulation strategy, which seeks to spur China’s domestic demand while simultaneously developing conditions to facilitate foreign investment and boost production for export – a shift towards becoming a demand and innovation-driven economy. Although it seem like it, this is a not a inwards-looking strategy, but a shift where focus is on tapping into China’s internal consumption patterns and domestic markets all the while aiming to buffer the impact of global economic headwinds and unpredictable external events on China’s economic and financial stability.

From a business perspective we have seen an initial strong recovery in Chinese economy and many Danish companies are reporting good growth and a positive near-term outlook as well as further investments in China in both manufacturing and sales channels. At the same time most industries have been hit with one supply chain disruption after another – power shortages, congestions in US ports, all sorts of Covid caused delays, shutdowns, restrictions, limitations and uncertainties. The general global shipping & transportation crises has affected many of us, and is expected to continuing doing so far into 2022. Due to the Covid restrictions on travel to China, we can also see a growing disconnect between company headquarters in Denmark and us on the ground in China. The level of complexity level for running a business is certainly not getting smaller.
The Chinese economy as such reported a growth of 8.1%, but the second half cooled and 2022 will probably see a slower growth rate at an expected 5%.

As for the Danish Chamber of Commerce in China the most noteworthy achievement was that on 8 December 2021 joined the North, East & South Chambers were officially joined into one united chamber, all under the license under the Ministry of Civil affairs in Beijing (only 16 countries have this license). We will still be keeping the regional boards and activities – but a united chamber means that we stand much stronger and can use and share synergies across the country and across borders. The first Danish Chamber of commerce was established in 1926, and there has since been many smaller and bigger Danish chambers around the country in different periods – but this new united All China Chamber is the first time that we are all one, so it is quite a historic accomplishment.

In 2021 the Danish Chamber of Commerce in China welcomed 49 new members and associates. We held 141 events in total with 3200+ attendees online and offline. We received a record amount of nominations for the Business Person of the Year event and held a spectacular gala at the original historic Shanghai Chamber of Commerce building. Our combined Wechat accounts have a total of 4743 followers, with 1003 new followers gained alone in 2021. We held 2 training programs with 40+ participants on the topics of Team Management and the Positive Impact of Emotional Intelligence.
The secretariats in Beijing and Shanghai have done a wonderful job in 2021 and has also grown a lot with the increased level of activity and the adaption to becoming one united chamber. I would like to express a great thank you to everyone who has worked hard to make this possible, including all our members and supporters. 2021 has been a big year for us.

2022
What can we expect for 2022?

First of all, Covid and supply chain disruptions are not going away any time soon. We will have to live with the difficulties, and opportunities, that this creates. Travel restrictions will impact most of us, and we may feel further apart from family and friends. Climate change will continue to impact our lives, and entirely new challenges may arrive in 2022. The business climate will continue to be tough and complex.
We can also expect a continuous difficult political environment between China and the West, and most probably what the experts call “Constructive Decoupling” within certain sectors. 2022 is also the year with the Winter Olympics, and in the fall the very important 20th CPC party congress will take place, and there will be changes in the national Chinese leadership. The preparations for this have already been under way throughout the country during much of 2021.

As for DCCC, the 3 regional boards, the main board and the secretariats are pushing ahead with lots of new initiatives and excitement for the chamber in 2022. We will complete a rebranding of the chamber, we will improve, focus and optimize events to be more focused and relevant for all our members. And we will do more to work much closer with other chambers, DCBF, the Nordic chambers in China and EUCCC.
Despite being fewer Danes in China, we will continue to expand our memberships and focus on engaging more employees from our member companies, by having them join events and becoming active in the chamber.

As for Danish businesses across China, being agile, flexible, innovative and finding our way in the uncertain landscape is the way to go. Historically Danish businesses have been strong adapters, we are used to the fact that we are not necessarily calling the shots, but we always find our ways within the given situation. Working closely together with our stakeholders, customers, employees and each other can both strengthen the business and our performance levels.

Tigers are considered to be brave, cruel, forceful and fearless. 2022 is the year of the Water Tiger, a year of all types of extremes, expansion and competition. The Tiger encompasses all the traits of a leader: logical, determined, strong self-confidence, ability to overcome fear and naturally takes risks while also successfully helping others.

Personal and organizational agility, working closely together, helping each other, being brave and determined will make this a great year for us all!

Welcome to the Year of the Tiger!

Newsletter December 2021

Board’s Corner

Dear DCCC members,

December was an eventful month as usual, but even more importantly, this month marked a historic moment for the DCCC as a whole. As businesses prepared to close their books for the year and wind down for a relaxing Christmas season, the DCCC reached a significant milestone, merging three chapters across China into one.  Reflecting on the year as a whole, 2021 was in many ways another year full of uncertainty. In the cross-border M&A field where I work, 2021, against many expectations, saw strong momentum in foreign investments into China. Investment inflows are on track to surpass 1 trillion Yuan, a record high, accelerated by China’s rapid recovery. The strong growth in inbound investments could also be seen by major investment decisions made by some of our member companies. Going forward, I believe China’s commitment to achieving carbon neutrality provides a tremendous opportunity for Danish companies to capitalize on in the years to come. On December 8, an Extraordinary General Meeting was held across the three DCCC chapters of North, East and South China, all unanimously voting for the merger of the chambers into one united organization. As we celebrate this merging, I want to emphasize that, like in other M&A projects, the success of this endeavour would not have been possible without the strong leadership and hard work that has been put in over a number of years by numerous individuals and teams. Their dedication has given the community an even more cohesive organization that will better serve the interest of Danish companies in China. We now have a committed board to continue the work as we enter the most important phase in any merger: integrating the organizations, with brand consolidation and the membership database first on the agenda.  On the events side, we kicked off December with a F&B regulatory update webinar, organized together with the Trade Council. Next was the workgroup seminar with Lundbeck, on optimization of China’s mental health policies. On December 9, the Interchamber Christmas mixer was held together with 20 other chambers. Lastly, a webinar on omni-channel marketing was held with the EU SME Centre. On December 21, the board gathered for a final board meeting of the year, planning and setting the sight for 2022, with first activities being finalized as we speak. The focus in 2022 will be on rolling-out and building on the benefits of a united DCCC, and increasing the value proposition of our chamber; more details will come soon. On behalf of the entire board, I also wish to welcome two new members joining DCCC – Suzuki Garphyttan Wire (Suzhou) as corporate member and Tseung Ching Barbara, as an individual member. I wish you a Happy New Year 2022 and look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events!

Board’s Corner

Shanghai, December 1st, 2021 Dear DCCC members,

The 3rd and last Lars of the board coming with his angle for the month. We are now in the final month of 2021. The November weather has given us clear indication that winter is around the corner. Moving into December means a lot of families fly back to Denmark to enjoy colder weather along with spending some proper Hygge time with the family. I hope the many, who are staying in China, enjoys some hot chocolate and takes the time to see or get in touch with family. We hope for pleasant weather in the coming weeks, both in Denmark and in China.November was yet another month reminding us that currently things are seldom constant, often testing the resilience of China’s healthcare system and their approach towards COVID. With only few confirmed cases, more than 50.000 people had to get tested, and a lot of flights were canceled, we truly are living in turbulent times. This year many industries have been heavily impacted that in previous years would be categorized as anomalies. These include supply chain disruptions, increasing transportation- and raw material -costs to mention a few. Yet another reason reminding us to stay sharp and resilient in this market of uncertainty. These uncertainties have increased the number of Danish SMEs coming to China, to be closer to the value chain and it is believed that it will keep increasing over the coming years. In November, we hosted several events. One of which is the first ever DCCC training in Emotional Intelligence and Leadership, that had 19 participants, and was very well-received by the attendees. It will be most likely be hosted again in 2022.On November 17th DCCC Co-Organized the first Nordic Marketing Day with the other Nordic chambers and Nordic Friend. Where it was possible to hear Nordic companies marketing strategy and practicalities, as well networking with industry professionals. People were provided with latest marketing tools and trends and a greater network across the Nordics. The HR- and Finance & Legal -Workgroup had a joint breakfast session about hiring and firing employees in China and the consequences this can bring if not done properly. The annual Christmas Dinner was held at Henkes, as tradition dictates. A very hyggelig evening, with traditional Danish inspired food, lot of schnaps, beer and unforgettable moments. Finally, the most anticipated event of the year in terms of DCCC events, the Business erson of the Year Award Gala. The glamorous event was held at the historical Chamber of Commerce building at the Bvlgari Hotel, where dancers and a live band all played a role in the events of the evening. The Young professional of the year went to Alexander Schandorff for his hard work as general manager for AYTM and Gran Living. Entrepreneur of the year went to Jamal Hajjaj, who is based in Xiamen. He won for his tremendous efforts and risk of setting up and running his own successful sourcing office. The Business Person of the year went to Christine Zhou, SVP and President of Region China for Novo Nordisk. Her contribution as leader and to the Sino-Danish collaboration serves as role model for all.Going forward, DCCC will have an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) in Shanghai on Wednesday December 8th at the Royal Danish Consulate General Shanghai, to solicit the agreement made from all 3 chambers to consolidate into one chamber.I wish you all a great December, merry Christmas, and Happy new year, and look forward to seeing you at the at the Royal Danish General Consulate on the 8th of December, for the EGM! Lars Melgaard AlgayerDCCC EAST YP Chairman, Board representative.Business Developer Manager, Confederation of Danish Industries – Asia Base

Help us distribute scholarships

The fact that Danes Worldwide is covered by Section 8A of Denmark’s Tax Assessment Act means that gifts and donations are used to fund scholarships for expat children and teens attending our online Danish language courses. These courses are important for children in families where Danish may not be spoken every day but where there is still a desire to retain the connection to Denmark.

In order for us to continue distributing these scholarships, we need to receive at least 100 gifts of DKK 200 by 1 January 2022. Therefore, we hope that you will contribute DKK 200 – or a larger amount (we would be most grateful).

Being covered by Section 8A of the Tax Assessment Act further means that Danes Worldwide may apply for funding support from the Ministry of Culture and for partial reimbursement of the VAT on our purchases of materials, computers, furnishings, etc. This helps us by defraying an expense.

You may donate via this link. We greatly appreciate your support.

Board’s Corner

Shanghai, November 4, 2021

Dear DCCC members,

We are now closing in on the end of 2021. October is over where we enjoyed a nice week’s break, spending quality time with family as well as enjoying a pleasant change in the weather. I hope many in China enjoyed taking the time seeing what China has to offer through domestic travel or simply exploring more of the city in which you live.

October was yet another month reminding us that currently things are seldom constant and often testing the resilience of many of our members that being corporate or individuals. In October this was related to the power restrictions and the resulting impacts of this, which really took effect in October. This year many industries have been heavily impacted by various events that in previous year would be categorized as anomalies. These are supply chain disruption, increasing transportation and raw material costs to mention a few and this was yet another event reminding us to stay sharp and resilient in this current market of uncertainty.

During this fall period we hosted several events on hot topics including starting our 2nd DCCC training of the year on “emotional intelligence and leadership”, followed by an interesting session on data privacy and protection laws in China, RMB Internationalization and we had our first webinar in Q4 with more to come so make sure to keep an eye out.

As well as all these events that took place during October, we also saw 7 new members joining the DCCC and on behalf of the board, I would like to wish them all a warm welcome – NTG Air & Ocean (Shanghai) Ltd and Liqtech Emission Control A/S as corporate members and Henrik Platz, Raymond Due, Erik Licht , Jennie Ho and Line Bertheussen as individual members.

Finally, as we leave October, we enter one of the most anticipated months in terms of DCCC events. We kick it off with the Business Person of the year gala on Saturday November 13th. As you are reading this letter hot off the press you have 1 day left to secure your ticket to what will be the party of the year. Don’t miss out!!

This followed by an event hosted by the DCCC – Nordic Marketing day on November 17th. More information will be announced on this shortly.

Furthermore, this may only be November but we all know how much we love to celebrate the festive period that is Christmas so make sure to mark your calendar as the DCCC Christmas lunch will be held on November 27th . We look forward to another fantastic lunch celebrated with many of you.

I wish you all a great November and look forward to seeing you at the Bvlgari Hotel on November 13th!

Board’s Corner

Shanghai, October 15, 2021

Dear DCCC members,

In the board, we are starting a new tradition in this space. You used to find the “Chairperson’s Corner” here. Now you will find the new “Board’s Corner”, where we as individual board members will take turns to share both a few personal reflections, while at the same time also give an update on the major events and coming activities in DCCC.

Being the first board member to have the privilege to write in this space, I wanted to share a reflection I had following the recent announcement from Beijing, aiming to limit children’s time spend on online gaming.

In isolation, this initiative could seem both strange and excessive. However, combined with another initiative to limit the market for children’s extra curriculum evening activities it starts to make more sense. Add to this the abandonment of the one child policy in 2016 and you will start to see a pattern. The ambition is to change the negative development in the birthrate. The aim is to support young couples in their dream to have a child and to build a family. Not just building a family, but also a family, where they have more opportunities to spend quality time together. The cost of raising a child in China’s major cities has simply increased too much for many couples to realize this dream. The quality family time has been diluted by the time consumed by the children’s gaming.

Being responsible for a business within the baby product sector in China/APAC, the development in number of newborns is naturally of very high interest to me. It should be for you as well. No matter what business you are in, this will eventually impact your business as well. It may take longer, depending on the nature of your business.

The number of newborns in China has fallen from 18 million babies in 2016 down to a predicted 11 million babies in 2021. It will be interesting to follow how the recent interventions from Beijing coupled with more initiatives to come will impact these numbers and eventually see them rise again. I personally believe the trend will change in the coming years in China.

As to the general activities in DCCC, September was characterized by a very high activity level. The first YP Clubhouse event was held with very inspirational speakers giving valuable insights to the participants.

Both the HR Work Group and the Finance & Legal Work Group had events, with topics on flexible employment and the income tax law.

In October, we have initiated a new training program. It is a three-session training program covering the topic of emotional intelligence and leadership. The training is in Chinese and suitable for mid-level management.

Make sure to mark Saturday November 13th. in your calendar. In the evening we will be meeting at the Bvlgari Hotel in Shanghai for the annual celebration of “Business Person of the Year”. Please note that the tickets are already on sale since yesterday and they are selling out fast. You can get your ticket here. A lot of efforts have been put into the preparation of this event and it will for sure be a very memorable evening in a very unique and historical location.

Finally, on behalf of the entire board, I would like to welcome the new partner member David Dongyu Cui as well as our new corporate member Flokk Trading (Shanghai) Co., Ltd.

Wishing you all a great October and see you at the Bvlgari Hotel in November!
