Chairman’s Corner – Kim Scheibel
Dear Members and Readers,
You are receiving our February “newsletter” at little late, because this is at the same time going to be my personal “goodbye” to DCCC this time around, as I will be returning to Denmark in the Summer, I will step down as Chairman of DCCC East at our upcoming Annual General Meeting on 24th March, where we look forward to see all our members in person this year, please sing up beforehand so we can reserve a seat for you.
It has been an incredible year for all of us here in China, but also for DCCC where physical meetings at times were not recommended, we have therefore turned to a new way of meeting – Webinars have become the new norm, my personal opinion is that we have possible had too many Webinars combined, but all beginnings are difficult, so I’m sure we will all find a comfortable level of combining Webinars with meetings face-to-face, once the vaccines are rolled out globally.
It had become pretty clear for a number of industries that Webinars is a super alternative to face-to-face meetings, so they are definitely here to stay, but business travel, hotel stays and dinners will hopefully find ways to recover in the future, as these businesses have possibly suffered the most during the global lock-down.
To serve our member better in DCCC East, you know we employed Ellen-Anan Kier as our membership manager, but what we did not know at the time was that our GM Laura Li, decided that 7 years with DCCC was sufficient, so instead of having 2 full time office staff members, we were back to 1. We have therefore decided to promote Ellen-Anan Kier to General Manager of DCCC East by 1st March and then look for an Intern to assist Ellen on a daily basis in the office.
Our Team Management training sessions in Chinese have started up again after the temporary Covid-19 stop, the first sessions are already fully booked (and running), but if you have future candidates then please do not hesitate to contact Ellen (ellen@dccc-shanghai.com) to be put on the next available training session.
On the collaboration side, then you will see more Shanghai events in the future “cross boarder” jointly hosted with our Nordic neighbors, simply to expand our network and business opportunities, as well as social networks.
It is with great pleasure that we can welcome Jacob Jensen Design as our latest new member of DCCC, it is fantastic to be joined by this great design brand, which I trust most of us know from useful and decorative items in our homes and offices.
As you can see from below list then we held fewer than normal events in February, but I trust you all enjoyed the quiet periods during Chinese New Year and are now fully recharged to do whatever is required to prosper in the year of the Ox.
I personally look very much forward to see who will fill the next Board seats here in DCCC East and to whom I shall pass the Chairmanship over to, therefore remember to sign up for the AGM, you vote is very important for the future of DCCC and our collaborative network platform here in/around Shanghai. See you on 24th March.
Very best regards and thank you to the entire Board for having put up with me during the last year,
Kim Scheibel
DCCC East Chairman

Danes Worldwide Corner
Expat Danes are without access to the Covid vaccine
We have recently had quite a number of inquiries from members all over the world who are currently without access to the Covid vaccine. As expats, they are not entitled to receive it in their country of residence, and they are not included in Denmark’s official plans for vaccination.
In mid-January we sent a letter to the Minister of Health to call attention to the matter; there was no response. However, the Health and Senior Citizens’ Committee of the Danish Parliament sent an invitation to a virtual meeting on 9 February in which Secretary General Anne Marie Dalgaard and Chair of the Board Susanne Rumohr Hækkerup had an opportunity to describe the scope of the problem and to request that politicians address the matter as soon as possible to assist the many Danes living abroad.
Subsequently we sent a briefing to the Committee: https://www.danes.dk/en/briefing-presented-by-danes-worldwide-to-the-health-and-senior-citizens-committee-of-the-danish-parliament/
