Every year, the island of Bornholm in Denmark is the site of a large gathering of politicians, government officials, industry and union leaders, and many other stakeholders in the administration of the communities and institutions of Denmark.
For four days at the eighth annual social summit, “Folkemødet”, 113,000 attendees – a record number – discussed politics and public policy and enjoyed the company of each other. Danes Worldwide Secretary General Anne Marie Dalgaard was there and had conversations with a number of key politicians, among them Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen, Minister of Immigration Inger Støjberg, and recently appointed Minister of Education and Research Tommy Ahlers. At meetings of that kind, the most important is to network and meet the politicians – especially the ministers – for short conversations. The topics off course was Danes Worldwide’s key issues such as the Danish unification rules. In addition, the Secretary General had the opportunity to speak with several industry representatives and to raise awareness of Danes Worldwide.
