Newsletter March 2020

Chairman’s Corner – Poul G. Kristensen

Dear Members and Friends of DCCC,

This is our third newsletter in 2020 and still a very special year.
COVID-19 is still setting the daily agenda for everyone in China. Finally we see the light at the end of the tunnel and the biggest part of companies have already resumed work and even schools in Jiangsu province already started on Monday the 30th of March. Shanghai will probably follow up later, but there is still no official date on it. So now everyone is finally adapted to the new normal imposed by COVID-19, keeping distance, using mask and being aware of the importance hygiene.

Unfortunately as many were afraid of the COVID-19 become a global pandemic and now there are 6 times (and growing every day) more cases around the world than in China. USA, Italy, Spain and Iran are in the top of the list with more cases followed by many other countries. So China started in March to implement obligatory 14 days quarantine to all people returning / entering China. Later on added the obligatory COVID-19 test and in the night of the 28th of March closed the entrance to China to all foreigners (even they have a valid visa). Many of these actions are not popular (which is understandable), but are probably necessary to avoid a second wave of new COVID-19 cases from returnees to China.

As we mentioned in the last newsletter the AGM (Annual General Meeting), will be held the 23rd of April 2020. If the rules for quarantine and isolation in Shanghai aren’t lifted then the AGM will be as a Web-meeting.

During March we had some Webinar events:
March 3th –Corona Virus Follow-up Webinar: How are Danish companies operating in China dealing with the consequences of the COVID-19 outbreak?
March 11th –The Coronavirus – Challenges and Opportunities by The Economist
March 19th –Reconsidering Digital Marketing During the Coronavirus
March 27th –How your company can benefit from the new COVID-19 related policies

You can read more about the mentioned events in our home page or by following our postings in LinkedIn.

INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS

In view of the rapid spread of COVID-19 across the world, China has decided to temporarily suspend the entry into China by foreign nationals holding visas or residence permits still valid to the time of this announcement, effective from 0 a.m., 28 March 2020. Entry by foreign nationals with APEC Business Travel Cards will be suspended as well. Policies including port visas, 24/72/144-hour visa-free transit policy, Hainan 30-day visa-free policy, 15-day visa-free policy specified for foreign cruise-group-tour through Shanghai Port, Guangdong 144-hour visa-free policy specified for foreign tour groups from Hong Kong or Macao SAR, and Guangxi 15-day visa-free policy specified for foreign tour groups of ASEAN countries will also be temporarily suspended. Entry with diplomatic, service, courtesy or C visas will not be affected. Foreign nationals coming to China for necessary economic, trade, scientific or technological activities or out of emergency humanitarian needs may apply for visas at Chinese embassies or consulates. Entry by foreign nationals with visas issued after this announcement will not be affected.

The suspension is a temporary measure that China is compelled to take in light of the outbreak situation and the practices of other countries. China will stay in close touch with all sides and properly handle personnel exchanges with the rest of the world under the special circumstances. The above-mentioned measures will be calibrated in light of the evolving situation and announced accordingly.
