Chairman’s Corner – Poul G. Kristensen

Dear Members and Friends of the DCCC,

October has passed by so quickly, maybe because it has been one of the busiest month’s in 2019 for DCCC Shanghai. This newsletter will definitely be a little longer than the previous once.

As you might have noticed, we celebrated the BPOY 2019 last month. On behalf of the whole Board I want to thank all the participants of the Business Person of the Year Gala Ball 2019 as well as everyone who helped and also the once who shared pictures and news about this great event through LinkedIn and other platforms.

This year was the 13th Business Person of the Year Award Gala. We were very honoured to be welcoming the Danish Embassy, the Danish Consulate of Shanghai and the whole DCCC PAN China along with the DCBF and of course also all the representatives from the BPOY-, EPOY, -and YPOY committees.

I would personally like to thank:
The Danish Ambassador – Carsten A. Damsgaard
The Danish General Consul in Shanghai – Jakob Linulf
PAN China Chairman & DC-SC Chairman – Jan Laegaard Broni
Chairman of DCCC BJ – Mathias Boyer
Chairman of DCBF – Tom Behrens-Sorensen

Thank you very much all for participate in this year’s Gala Ball.

BPOY is to recognize all the amazing achievements by some members of our lovely community. We would like to congratulate all the winners. The recognition and the prizes are all well-deserved and we wish you all the best in the future and thank you for the great work you do within Danish companies in China. And thereby make the Danish-Chinese relation even stronger.

The winners of the different categories were:
Chairman of Danfoss, Jørgen Mads Clausen – Lifetime Achievement Award (actually this prize is the second one given in the 13 years of the BPOY event);
President of Danfoss China, Kjeld Stærk – Business Person of the Year 2019;
GM of Wrist Ship Supply, Ying Li Kier – Entrepreneur of the Year 2019;
CEO of INDIVIDUALS, Johan Hygum Hillers – Young Professional of 2019.
If you want to know more about the prizes or the Gala Ball, just visit our homepage.

For this year’s Gala Ball we tried a lot of new things one was the photograph, Mr. Wang Gangfeng who’s a famous photographer in China. We also had the opportunity to enjoy some classical music doing the dinner, played by Shanghai New Century Symphony Orchestra. The Emcees this year was Vicki Berlin & Nikolaj Tarp. And later we had Int’ Percussionist Thomas Dyani, Vocalist Wink and DJ Sexi Monki to light up the party. It ended up being a cooperation between board member Kim Scheibel who made sure we got some Danish music as well. According to the program, the party should have ended by 1am. But was post-boned to 2am when the hotel staff decided to turn on the lights.

I’m not afraid to conclude that the Gala Ball was a big success and the participants were very happy and enjoyed themselves a lot! We are already looking much forward to next year’s Gala Ball and we hope to see you all return for the Business Person of the Year 2020.

I want to take this opportunity to once again thank you all our sponsors for their support for the BPOY Gala Ball, in particular our major sponsors ECCO & Grundfos (2 biggest cash sponsors for the event), along with Mærsk, SAS, Danfoss, Hempel, Nilfisk and SP Moulding. It is thanks to you that we were able to make this year’s Gala Ball such an amazing success.

I would also like to thank you Laura, Camilla, Christy and all the volunteers for their great help and support to arrange this great event!

October 2019 was a very special month for DCCC-Shanghai. Not only because of the Gala Ball. But we also had the great honour of welcoming Countess Alexandra for two “WOW” events. First DCCC-Shanghai had the pleasure of inviting our members for an exclusive book release for the Countess new book Mit Lykkelige Land / My Happy Country. And the next day we enjoyed the Empowering Female Executive Breakfast with Countess Alexandra and Dr. Claudia Suessmuth Dyckerhoff. We would like to thank you Ferring Pharmaceuticals for sponsoring both of these amazing events.

We actually had another “WOW” event in October. We were very happy to host The Spirit of Entrepreneurship event with Jørgen Mads Clausen, along with Lotte Norgreen and Trine Roland Westergaard. We would like to thank both Danfoss and Ferring Pharmaceuticals for their support and sponsorship for this event.

We welcome our new corporate members:

Meeting with the Minister of Transportation in Denmark

Secretary General Anne Marie Dalgaard, Board Chair Susanne Rumohr Hækkerup, and Corporate Counsel Yuriy Fogh Axelsen recently met with Denmark’s Minister of Transportation Benny Engelbrecht at Christiansborg (the Parliament) in Copenhagen. One key agenda item was the difficulty experienced by those living outside the EU when they need a new driver’s license in the case of loss or theft. EU rules stipulate that a new driver’s license must be issued in the country of residence. That has led to several problems for our members outside the EU. The Minister was receptive and as a consequence of our raising the matter is now discussing it with his EU colleagues. We will stay in touch with him and keep pursuing the matter.
