Chairman’s Corner – Emil Hauch Jensen

Like a child waiting for Christmas, in DCCC we are now counting the days until 24th of October and our biggest event of the year – the Business Person and Entrepreneur of the Year Gala Ball. Last year we had a record breaking big crowd and an unforgettable party! This year we are aiming even higher with even more entertainment and a fantastic venue at the Jing An Shangri-La.
So it is once again time to dust off the tuxedo, find that special dress and importantly to reserve your tickets (just send an email to our secretariat today!).
A couple of tips for smart booking of your tickets:
If you would like to be sure to sit with your friends, DCCC offers a discount for booking a table of 10 people together.
The whole evening program will be in English and it is a great opportunity to bring your non-Danish business partner (or just partner).
I look forward to welcome you all at the 9th Business Person and Entrepreneur of the Year Gala Ball!
Emil Hauch Jensen
Chairman of the Board, DCCC Shanghai Chapter

Meet Our Colleagues
In this column we introduce other Danish Chambers of Commerce around the world

Chairman of DCC South China and General Manager at Alu Rehab in Xiamen
We have 3 business events during a year. At every Business event we will have different topics with guest speakers and visits to different companies or factories. At these events participants are networking, exchanging business information and finding good advice when needed.
Twice during the year we meet under more relaxed circumstances. We celebrate The Danish Midsummer in June which is a family day with a lot of games, fun and laughter. In November we host a Christmas Party, a nice evening with all the Danish traditions, music and dance. For these social events, up to 80 people are signing up every time. It shows that our Members and Friends are supporting our work to keep a touch of Denmark although we are far away from “home”.
Because we are a small Chamber our members know each other very well and are good at using each other’s know-how in everyday business and personal life. The “Dane of the year 2014” award was given to a spouse which shows that our Chamber is not only providing networking to the business persons living in the area, but also providing services and events to cater the women or men behind the business person.

Update From The Royal Danish Consulate
The Consulate General, Innovation Center and visa center in Shanghai will be closed on Monday 28 September, Wednesday 30 September, Thursday 1 October and Friday 2 October.
Consul General in Shanghai attends opening ceremony of new direct flight
On Wednesday the 2nd of September the Danish Consul General in Shanghai Mr. Nicolai Prytz attended the opening ceremony of the direct flight between Hangzhou Xiaoshan Airport and Copenhagen Airport in Denmark.
Following a brief film screening featuring Denmark, the Consul General gave a speech in which he praised the strengthening of the ties between China and Denmark that the opening of the flight entails.
“It is a true pleasure being present here today. Standing in front of you at yet another occasion on which our two countries strengthen their bond by reducing the distance between the Kingdom of Fairy Tales and the proud country of China,” said Mr. Nicolai Prytz in a speech in which he encouraged more Chinese citizens to go see Denmark.
Danish Design Showroom opens in China
On the 7th of September, a Danish Design Showroom showcasing pieces of Danish furniture and accessories opened to the public in Chongqing Municipality.
The showroom, slated to run till the 30th of November, has gathered 21 Danish design brands in a venue that covers an area of 248 square meters.
During the nearly three-month exhibition, pieces of furniture and accessories will illustrate the concept of Danish design featuring mixes of functionality, simplicity and utter aesthetics.
Ambassador A. Carsten Damsgaard opened the exhibition together with Anja Villefrance, Danish General Consul in Chongqing.
“Chongqing is a good example of the economic growth miracle that China has undergone in the past couple of decades. I am very excited to see this Danish Design Showroom open in Chongqing,” said Ambassador Damsgaard.
Consul General in Shanghai attends Saxo Bank China’s opening ceremony
The Danish investment bank Saxo Bank opened their new office premises the 10th of September in Lujiazui, Shanghai – an area that is commonly regarded as the centre of China’s financial industry. Consul General in Shanghai, Nicolai Prytz gave the opening speech at the opening.
“The opening of these new offices in the Lujiazui area shows Saxo Bank’s strong willingness to be part of the financial reform in China and to contribute to its further development by sharing Danish experience and knowhow with its Chinese business partners and clients,“ said Consul General Nicolai Prytz.
Denmark and China partner for agriculture and health
The Danish Consul General in Shanghai, Nicolai Prytz, received Regional Council Chairman for the Denmark Central Region, Bent Hansen, during his stay from the 14th-17th of September in China. The Central Region of Denmark is partner city with Shanghai and the purpose of the stay was to promote and strengthen Sino-Danish cooperation on Food Safety and Health.
The Danish delegation’s stay had both a food and a health track represented by two corresponding series of seminars. Both Chairman Bent Hansen and Consul General Nicolai Prytz stressed the importance of the cooperation on these subjects.
“Food safety, sustainability in farming and environmental solutions; these subjects will be discussed here today. And these subjects are not to be discussed for the benefit of the few – but of the many,” said Consul General Nicolai Prytz.
Bent Hansen supported that sentiment.
“Over the last 12 years we have had a well-developed and crucial cooperation with Shanghai in the food and health fields. We truly still have something to offer eachother,” said Regional Council Chairman Bent Hansen.
The Danish Ambassador meets Mayor of Shanghai
The Danish Ambassador to China A. Carsten Damsgaard met the Mayor of Shanghai Mr. Yang Xiong.
Alongside the Danish Consul General in Shanghai, Mr. Nicolai Prytz, the Danish Ambassador was received by the Mayor of Shanghai in Shanghai People’s Hall.
During the meeting Yang Xiong said that he hoped that both sides would strengthen cooperation in technology, education and healthcare sectors. Further discussion was on the area of Shanghai’s Free Trade Zone and the possibilities of broadening existing cooperation between Denmark and China.
