Chairman’s Corner – Kim Scheibel

Dear Members and Friends of DCCC – Shanghai/East China,

Everyone continues to search for news in relation to when China will “normalize” arrival formalities, I’m unfortunately not able to give you a conclusive answer, but it does look like we are entering into a period where existing valid work permits will be sufficient eliminating the need for the temporary extra single entry visa. We also welcome SAS back to Shanghai, who will restart their direct route in October, then there is only the 14 days quarantine and Covid-19 tests left to deal with ….. let us see whether this will allow us who have been “stuck” in China for the last year to celebrate Xmas in Denmark.

Our old working groups within HR and Financial/Legal/IT are about to restart, for Danish companies to share experiences and assist each other wherever possible. Contact Laura laura@dccc-shanghai.com if you wish to join any of these groups.

The Annual DCCC Gala Ball on 31. Oct. where the Business community in Shanghai get together to honor the Business Person -, Young Professional – and Entrepreneur – of the Year is now fully organized. So make sure to book your seat by contacting DCCC Shanghai GM – Laura laura@dccc-shanghai.com.

Welcome to our new corporate member: 3Shape.
3Shape is changing dentistry together with dental professionals across the world by developing innovations that provide superior dental care for patients. More information will be shared in the corporate member area in the newsletter.

Our Young Professional (YP) are still “desperately” looking for new members, so make sure to spread the word – contact Lars lars.algayer@cflflooring.com for more info.

Danes Worldwide Corner

New Youth Membership
Until 1 September 2020, Danish Students Abroad (DSA) and Danes Worldwide offered a joint youth membership in the two organizations. That collaboration is now at an end, and Danes Worldwide offers a new type of membership for individuals up to the age of 26. It is available for DKK 200 per year or DKK 499 for three years. This new type of membership is aimed primarily at expat Danes contemplating a move (back) to Denmark for the purpose of attending secondary school or university.

For that reason, the membership focuses on educational guidance. Write to ung@danes.dk, and Anne Louise Schmidt will respond to questions about studying in Denmark. Frequent questions pertain to

Getting into a high school (gymnasium)
Government stipends for students (SU)
Language competency requirements for acceptance into university
Assessment of qualifications earned abroad (for quota 1 and quota 2 of applications to study at university)
The application process for university level programs in Denmark.

IPR networking meeting
Intellectual property rights is a hot topic in China especially among international companies and not least Danish FMCG (fast moving consumer goods) Companies, who are challenged by their products being copied and a constant battle to protect their trademarks against being misused.

To help Danish Companies with their IPR issues the Consulate General in Shanghai has set up a Danish IPR Networking Forum, where companies can be updated with the latest IPR laws and practices, and they can discuss issues, share advice and exchange best practices to be at the forefront of new challenges and opportunities.

For the first meeting the Consulate General in Shanghai invited Specialist IPR Lawyer Reinout van Malenstein from HFG, Mick Ryan Director, Brand Protection Cooperation Platform Governance Department Alibaba Group and LEGO Group to present new IPR trends and regulations, Alibaba Group’s measurements in brand protection and a case study of LEGO Group’s legal actions to protect their trademark and products against copying. The meeting was aimed at Legal Counsels from the LEGO Group, ECCO Shoes, Pandora, LINDBERG HAY and Danisa.

One take away from the meeting was a advise from the LEGO group to form alliances together with other companies that has similar IPR issues to make a stronger case with the courts, and based on the lively discussion and questions it seems that the invited Companies really took the opportunity to exchange and share their experiences with each other. The Consulate General plan to host IPR networking meetings throughout the year with different topics and companies.
